I hope you're all spending time with your family and friends this holiday season and getting ready for a fantastic 2014. As a small business owner, I'm more confident than ever that 2014 will be a great year for all of us. Thanks to everyone for their business and support in 2013.

Why 2014 will be a great year for inbound marketing and small businesses.

The last five years have been extremely challenging for small businesses. The big guys got bailed out and we were left to pay the tab. The government placed more and more regulatory and tax burdens on small businesses while demonizing us as greedy and selfish. For those of us like me who quit a well-paying job to pursure a dream of starting and growing a small business, this demonization is particularly galling. We're trying to grow our businesses so that we can create jobs for Americans.

But a change is in the air. The American people are finally realizing that there's no such thing as a free lunch. The Obamacare catastrophe, while damaging to most Americans, is a blessing in the sense that it reminds us that government is inefficient and managed for the benefit of a privileged few. I think we're coming to our senses and we will start to see the decline of big government. It's been a huge drag on our economy and I, for one, just want to be allowed to grow my business without a jackboot on my neck.

Inbound marketing is based on the premise that companies that create content that is valuable to their target audience will be found when buyers look for solutions on the internet. It's up to us to close the sale, but inbound marketing will produce qualified sales leads for us when done properly. It doesn't matter how big you are, if you can create good content and present it properly, you will succeed. For those of us who have been using inbound marketing for the past few years, the lessons we've learned and brand recognition we've created will stand us in good stead in 2014.

The holiday season is about doing good deeds

Regardless of your religious beliefs, we should all embrace the Christmas spirit of being unselfish and helping out others. If you are so inclined, please consider making a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

So Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy New Year and Peace and Love to All!
